This month we bring you a chaotic mix of psycore stoked with atomic energy!   Introducing Kalilaskov AS (or Vadim Cherkashin to his friends).  Kalilaskov means 'the kind one' in Belorussian and the AS stands for Atomic Station.  Why, you may ask?

Well, Vadim is a survivor of the devastation wrought by the nuclear meltdown at the Chernobyl reactor in the former USSR, living very close to the disaster as it happened.  Soon after the catastrophe Vadim and his family moved to Israel where he first got exposure to the psytrance scene, and where his new friends dubbed him 'the kind one'!  

As far as his music life goes Vadim has produced his own material from the word go, first under the french Nabi records label and now with Blittz Studios, where he's contracted to make his first full solo album very soon.

Kalilaskov AS is Vadim Cherkashin. He was born in the USSR near Chernobyl and after the infamous atomic disaster in the region he moved to Israel with his family.
Now live in Germany - Berlin.
In Israel Vadim fell in love with psychedelic trance and eventually decided to pursue his own solo project. Around the same time the nickname Kalilaskov first appeared. Initially it was only a name used by Vadim's close friends to address him (translated as "the kind one" from Belorussian). But later Vadim adopted this name as his permanent alias and added AS to it, which stands for Atomic Station. Thereby Kalilaskov AS was officially born.
It did not take long for the global psytrance community to take notice of the young musician and his unique music. The very first release came out on the French Nabi Records and after that multiple compilation releases followed on some of the best labels in the world.
Kalilaskov's best of came out in 2008 on Digital Drugs Coalition under the title "Killas" and incorporated Vadim's most renowned compilation tracks. Today Kalilaskov AS is signed to the world famous Russian-Australian giant Blitz Studios and his first full length solo album is to come out very soon!!!
At present Kalilaskov AS is playing all over the world at various indoor and outdoor events, club parties and festivals! Catch him near you :)

A psy mashup set of sorts….ethereal, rollicking and spacey trance weaved together with cleaner club sounding psy-tech goes someway to describing this superb set from Marciana (Back To Mars).  Marciana is originally from Brazil but has been resident in Amsterdam since the 90s, where she stayed in the ELF community soon after arriving.  Here she made her creative contacts including the infamous '9 lives of Hofmann' crew who she later teamed up with, investing her time and music energy into building that part of the Dam's psychedelic scene, all the while honing her skills as an international DJ. 

Since then Marciana has performed across Europe and recently taken pen to paper, sharing her perspectives on Amsterdam's psychedelic scene in 'Psychedelic Traveller 'magazine.  Links can be found on her website.  Meanwhile we hope you enjoy the set :)

Born in Brazil, Back to Mars (Marciana) has been living in Europe for a very long time. Psytrance got into her life right after she arrived in Amsterdam in the late 90's and went to live in the ELF, a big squat that housed a community of many artists, musicians, DJs, producers, painters, shamans and freaks.

It was in 2001 that DJ'ing became a part of her, when she started helping with building and playing at the parties from 9 Lives of Hofmann, an underground Psytrance crew from Amsterdam and she has since grown into a versatile DJ.
 
Her style is either Minimal Progressive Psytrance (Zenonesque) or Dark Psytrance and often she likes mixing them to create a journey, so she enjoys the freedom of doing that which fits the time and suits the place.
 
In Amsterdam, she also plays Deep House, Lounge, World music and Tech House in lounge bars.

She has performed in Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden.

Sleep Paralysis is Giorgos Mitropapas, a psytrance DJ and producer from Greece, now resident at Edinburgh's foremost and longest running psytrance night, Cosmic!   As well as DJ'ing and making tunes, Giorgos is a web and graphic designer, and even finds time to make helpful music production tutorials online.  This is a live recording of a stomping closing set he performed at Cosmic's 5th anniversary last October.  Enjoy :)

Sleep Paralysis is Giorgos Mitropapas, a Greek electronic music composer and DJ based in Edinburgh. He always had a passion for music in general, mostly rock and metal in his early days. He  started getting involved into electronic music during his studies in the UK, around 1995. He was exposed to artists like Ozric Tentacles, Shpongled, Hallucinogen, and a whole other artists influenced by the psychedelic and dance wave . In about 2005 he got seriously involved into electronic music production and started learning various music software with an intent to create original and expressive  electronic music that satisfied his need for personal expression. He is part of the Planet Monkey collective (www.planetmonkey.co.uk)  that run the Cosmic psychedelic  trance club night in Edinburgh for a few years now. He also runs an educational website  related to music and audio production called  Audio Tutorial Videos (www.audiotutorialvideos.com) a site that has proved really helpful for a lot of artists and people starting their career in music production.  Giorgos is also involved in graphic & web design (www.gmitropapas.com).  His artist web site (www.sleepparalysis.me) contains music that he has produced along with various music production tutorials.

Pappe (Rene Pape) is 34 Years old and comes from the north part of Germany. His interest in DJìng started in the mid 90`s,where he encounted with the young Technoscene. Pappe`s first official gig took place at the Ganesh Tribe in 1999. He started to mix with Vinyl and later changed to Cd and Laptop. From 2004-2010 he was resident DJ at the "Rappelkiste" and "Teonanacatl" Party`s in the Alhambra wich is located in Oldenburg. At the same time he started an own Party -Projekt "SUB" and organiized many Party`s and small Festival`s in nothern Germany. 'I discovered psy trance in 2002 through my mate Ash (Celtic Psy forum keymaster/Psilocybe Tribe(prev.k/a DossePosse)), after 25 years of northern soul & 2 years of techno!

I never set out to be a dj, I just wanted to hear my taste in psy trance. I began by playing a few tunes @ the end of outdoor parties when everyone else was too wasted to play.

Then, based on my enthusiasm & taste, (I think !?) Bez23(Kulu) asked me if I was up for playing @ Kulu (Bradford May 2005) WoW-my chance to play my favourite tunes. I wasn't gonna turn that chance down just because I couldn't dj !

I had 2 months to get to grips with the mechanics of dj ing, anyway its the tunes that count !!

It's been & still is a slow but interesting learning curve this dj malarkey. But, hey I'm enjoying it & for as long as they keep making tickety boo tunes that make me move I'll keep wanting to play them.

'Sylvan Bios know as Q to his friends and family has been an avid psy-fanatic since the 90's. He is South African born and now resided in Scotland. Having travelled through Israel in 2000 and having been in there for the rise of such greats as Infected Mushroom, Astrix and many more it left a lasting impression. He brings to the Scottish Psytrance scene a style that is both twilight and full-on that has sometimes been described as easy to dance to as to listen too.' 

A regular contributor to the show, Whirling Dervish (Lee Sexton) presents another pumping set of psy-tech and trance, just the pick-me-up needed to scare off the last of the winter chill.  Lee is based in Dundee and mainly plays out at parties in Scotland having made several appearances as guest DJ for Random and Headroom.

"AstroPilot comes from Siberia, Russian Federation.  Behind the name is Dmitry Red'ko.

For the past 10 years he has been experimenting with music and sounds.

His music is the direct outcome of his true passion for the sonic world and a lot of hard work in the studio. AstroPilot has quickly become a well recognized name in Psychedelic Ambient circles. His music is a reflection, and combines the culture, sights and sounds form his homeland.

AstroPilot manages to generate a considerable buzz especially in the local Russian Psychedelic club scene and as a result has been grabbing the attention from some of the bigger names in the industry. When listening to his music, it is sometimes hard to believe that behind his sound there is just a 26 year old lad who loves to express his visions through his music.

Artist bio:

Aurora has been involved in the psy trance scene since the late ninties when he first travelled to India and experienced some of the earliest Goa trance parties in the costal villages of Vagator and Anjuna.

As well as playing at parties in India and his native Scotland, Aurora has founded Headroom, a psy-trance night in the far north of Scotland, and more recently Ohm, a psy-chill and psybient night launching this December in Inverness.  In July of 2008 he created Back To Goa podcast; starting with a very small following of listeners the show has now blossomed and receives over 8000 downloads per month spanning some 27 episodes.  This is thanks to the kindness and support of the psytrance community of DJs and producers (both established and new) who submit their mixes to the show each month.

Kained & Able is the London based project of Steven Johnson and Nolan Luijten. Having met at a party in 2007, they bonded over a shared vision in progressive Psy and a fetish for cross-dressing. They went on to form the Kained & Able project in 2008 and have spent the past year refining and performing their underground blend of psychedelic trance across the UK and beyond. With a primary focus on heavy proggy beats, twisted sound design and hands on live performance, their taste for a minimal and darker form of progressive Psytrance has led them to become a regular feature in the London scene. 'Para Halu is Adam Hohmann from Hungary - a multi-talented musician and producer who, since his very young age has been always enchanted by music. As a child he learned to play the accordion, which later changed to piano and synthesizers however, he really enjoyed playing any instruments he ever met. After discovering computer based music production and trying himself in different compositions from beatless ambient music to dirty ass-kicking drum'n'bass, he began writing psychedelic tunes as Para Halu in the year 2002.

The past years have seen Para Halu as part of many first class international lineups all over the world from Japan to Brazil, from huge crowded parties and festivals such as Universo Paralello, Ozora, Soulclipse or Fullmoon Festival to indoor clubs and underground outdoor gatherings. 

Meanwhile Para Halu released countless tracks on various compilations as well as five succesful albums: self-distributed "No Para Full Halu" (2003) was followed by "The World Of Peace" (Parvati Records 2005), and two special conceptual albums "Space Rock" and "Wide Range" (Zaikadelic Records 2007 and 2008). The latest full-length Para Halu work called "The Future Sound Of Para Halu" was released recently on Adam's own label Psylife Music.

Short after Psylife Music, a sub-label for progressive beats has also been started: Halu Beats Records released its first compilation in 2008 with Sensient, Kalumet, Minimal Criminal and remixes including the one made from the Ace Ventura gem "Rebirth" by Adam Hohmann himself.'

Taking the show back to its dark psychedelic roots, this month we present an exclusive mix from Brazil's Necropsycho.  In this mix Nuccho takes us on a dark chaotic trip at breakneck speed, using only his latest 2010 productions.  All these tracks will soon be available on Necropsycho's debut album 'Macabra Queen', released later this year.  Prepare yourself..... 

Artists own bio:  

'Necropsycho was formed in 2003 by two friends, Nuccho and Hermann. In the city of Guarulhos / SP in Brazil. 

His productions are based on heavy melodies, timbres laniatus, creating an atmosphere obscure and influenced by goatrance, hardcore, gabba, industrial. 

In 2004 began to appear in SP in the main party dedicated psicodelia night. Starting to highlight the scenario Dark psychelic, passed by large festival in SP, MG and Go/Brazil . Playing alongside major national and international artists.  In 2006 they were invited to participate in various labels and started the calls for the first releases. 

Today, the project Necropsycho is being taken only by Nuccho, following soil in this journey, took his Ep launched in May 2008 by the label Metropolis Rec and also preparing an album split with the artists and Demonizz Bash once more be launched by the Dead Tree Productions. In August 2008 his first start Tour outside Brazil, is presented in Guatemala and Costa Rica and September awaits its first tuor by europe, presenting the countries, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Poland, Sweden. 

Starts in 2009, is already getting ready for second time in Europe, presenting in Italy, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Belgium. Returning to tour Europe, spending most important festivals in Brazil (Fora do Tempo and Samsara) and December and going through Costa Rica and closing years 2009 playing in Bahia - Brazil, Universo Paralello festival.

This year 2010, is preparing her first album debut. expected to launch in mid-year.'

Hi My name is Nitin and I am originally from India currently residing in Edinburgh. The music I get drawn to has to have a melodic touch to it although I am not opposed to the idea of playing other stuff. This is well highlighted in almost all of my musical endeavours.  I have been Djing on and off for the past 6 years .

I can dj any genre of music but psytrance is where the heart is. The sets I make speak loads and have a theme and purpose behind them. Onionbrain is solo project from Bruno Azalim, producer from Brazil. He began to produce electronic music in 2005, influenced by dark psychedelic and progressive trance. Onionbrain has developed an alien kind of dark progressive trance, deep and rhythmic, sometimes minimalistic. In 2008 he released his debut EP 'Onionbrain & The Aliens - Multiverse Theories', and in 2009 released a compilation by Mind Tweakers Records called 'Innerself' which gathered the attention of the world through this new emergence of hypnotic progressive trance. He Has played in some of the main festivals and parties in Brazil, like Ecologic, Earthdance, Festival Fora do Tempo, Samsara and Universo Paralello.

I started djing in 96' playing with different forms of music and learning the basics and fundamentals of djing, but in 1999 we (Labyrinth & I) went to our first psytrance party, and it changed everything. Moving from hard german trance to more anthem style trance to nu skool breaks to progressive into techno and so on... all keeping it very atmospheric , hypnotic, and very universal. Artist Bio:

Dark el kante is a game of words that means "to go off key or to act of discordant way" and is the dj name of Jorge Bazán, based in Scotland but native from Spain. It was at the end of the 90's when he discovered psy-trance as music and as a way of life, loving nature, traveling and attending various festivals around the world like in Morocco, Bolivia, Italy , Hungary...or playing in diferent events around the UK, Brazil, Spain, Slovakia, Costa Rica, Colombia, Germany,Latvia, Ireland and Austria or doing on-line dj sets in different internet radio stations like ://www.radioszkocja.pl/ (Poland) and www.radiondadurto.org/ (Italy) . Another dark and twisted guest mix this month from French born psychedelic DJ 'Twisted Kala'.  Kala is currently based in Goa India and plays in psychedelic parties across the Indian subcontinent, as well as in her native country of France.

Kala headlined at the pinnacle of the Goa party season this year, playing Shiva Valley on new years eve and blew away pretty much everyone in attendence, myself included :)  The old Goa spirit was definately awakened that night!

This weeks show is a superb dark atmospheric set from Labyrinth, one part of the psychedelic collective known as Pangea Productions. Labyrinth formed Pagnea with co-founder Kameleon in 2000. As well as producing music ranging from psychedelic to techno and tech house, Pagnea have played out at events across North America and Europe. Minimal Criminal artist's Bio:

Since 2007, Zhyin has been working on the material for the Minimal Criminal debut album,which will be called "Minimus Maleficarum". Sometime in 2009 this CD will be released by Cosmic Conspiracy records (New Zealand).

Minimal Criminal make tracks in a variety of styles, borrowing elements from minimal techno/house, progressive trance and electro and incorporating them into the base Minimal Criminal sound. Most tracks have a dark vibe while some tracks display more light, though always deep and hypnotic. The bpms of the tunes also vary, ranging from 125 to 140.

The Minimal Criminal story goes back to the year 2003 in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, when Zhyin and Echoes decided to create a project inspired by their favorite artists at the time such as Sensient, Krumelur, Cujorius One, etc. Their first release was in 2005 with the track, "Reefer and Barbeque" on the "Intelligent Manipulation" compilation CD from Zenon records(Australia), which was a collaboration with Swedish sonic weirdo act, Krumelur. Since then,they've had tracks released by labels such as Cosmic Conspiracy records, Halu Beats (Hungary), and Pure Perception records (U.S.A).

2009 will be a good year for Minimal Criminal for several reasons. Firstly, since the two members can operate the project simultaneously in two parts of the world, the Minimal Criminal sound can spread farther.

Secondly, because more and more labels are interested in releasing their tunes, therefore there should be a good handful of releases that year. Eventhough Minimal Criminal has a more underground appeal due to their unconventional sound, there is more demand now more than ever for minimal and dark progressive music. Minimal styles from techno to trance are very popular now and Minimal Criminal fully embraces those sounds.

Another month another great bonus set contributor on Back To Goa.  This time we present a special live set from Trance Conspiracy in Germany by DJ/producer 'aodioiboa'.

A resident of Leipzig, aodioiboa has been producing and DJ'ing for several years in the psychedelic trance scene, playing at parties across Europe and in places as far flung as the Acores islands.  As a producer he has a wide focus, producing everything from druggy ambient dub to full-on 150 bpm psychedelic stormers.  His track 'Moonpierz' became an instant hit in 2007 appearing in the excellent Motion Sensor compilation from Sonic Motion.  Other notable releases were 'Jarring' and a remix of anne clarks  'closed circuit' on the mushroom compilation.

Since then aodioiboa has ramped up his production output considerably and will soon be releasing a brand new album showcasing his most recent works.

Back To Goa podcast presents another Bonus Set, this time from Marco Koeller and Michael Schalo who are better known as the NEW AGE HIPPIES. Special thanks to Marco for granting Back To Goa the privilege of hosting this great progressive mix!

Artist Bio:

The Project "New Age Hippies" was founded in 2001 by Marco Koeller and Michael Schalo. New Age Hippies stands for Psychedelic and Progressive Trance without meeting any given category to close. After the Debut-Release "Sunshine & Rock'n'Roll" was released on NovaTekk (D), there have been several Follow-Ups on international Samplers followed by international Live-Gigs. In 2005, Michael decided to leave the Project for Family care. In 2006, the 2nd Album by New Age Hippies was released, as well as the first Album of the B-Side-Project "Smooth". After lots of Live-Gigs and DJ-Sets, in 2008, the 2nd Album by Smooth was released with great success on Vertikal Records.

"My dj name is Dark el kante and my real name Jorge Bazan, a Spanish based in Scotland party promoter and dj, the name of the crew I represent is Random with who I use to organize 2 monthly events in clubs of Edinburgh and outdoor parties around the United Kingdom with different sound systems.

I’m a dj from over 9 years now and I can do dj sets of relaxing chill out music, full-on night twisted psychedelic-trance (dark) for the night time or suomi trance music for crazy and happy mornings. I’ve been played in countries like Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Spain and around the United Kingdom with gigs already for 2009 in Ireland, Austria, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine…, and I’m an active member of two internet radio stations:http://www.radioszkocja.pl/ (Poland) and www.radiondadurto.org/ (Italy)
